Dunblane Centre

Cynthia was asked to go along and give a motivational taster session at The Dunblane Centre's Volunteers Evening, which was held on 2nd Sept 2010.

Around 75 volunteers and potential volunteers attended the event. The support for the centre and the sense of community spirit was incredible. From youths to retired individuals, men, women and children all dedicating their time on a Friday night to find out how they could make a difference in their community!

Cynthia delivered a truely motivational and inspiring session to the volunteers and clearly delivered the importance of becoming a volunteer. She inspired passion and enthusiasm in many of the attendees.

We received some fantastic feedback some the people of Dunblane:

"engaging, thought provoking, energising and motivating"

"I felt positively motivated"

"it was very interesting, inspirational and motivating"

"it was an eye opener & an inspiration"

"I got inspired to do more to help than just volunteering"

The Dunblane Centre is truely a remarkable place, following the tragic shooting at Dunblane Primary School in 1996 people from around the world sent money as well as their condolences. This led onto the creation of the centre, which was purposely built to serve the people of Dunblane. For the full history and for volunteering options contact The Dunblane Centre on 01786 824224 or visit http://www.dunblanecentre.co.uk

Rat Nav

Our Rat Nav training programme is going from strength to strength. We are actively engaged with Falkirk Council with other Council's now interested in our bespoke programme.

The Rat Nav programme was designed by Lorraine and Cynthia out of the frustration that standard training courses were not effective in helping young people. Rat Nav is an interactive programme designed for full participation with groups of young people to help them discover available paths in life.

It has proved to be a highly popular workshop and we have received fantastic positive feedback from participants.

The Personal Development Voodoo workshop has been delivered to corporate clients, groups of individuals and at our Here Come the Girls Events.

ACES Awards 2010

Lorraine was invited to speak at the ACES Conference in Edinburgh on 24 June 2010. The conference was filled with Executive Secretaries and PA's from across Scotland as well as a host of distinguished guests.

Cynthia and myself were there to support Lorraine and we were so glad it was Lorraine that was getting up to speak rather than us! Although nervous, Lorraine took to the stage after lunch and provided a 45 minute speech and interactive workshop on "Adding Value or Re-Thinking Values". Once up on the stage Lorraine was in her glory and no nerves were to be seen.

Lorraine successfully managed to engage with the 200 delegates in the conference room and had them all thinking about personal and work values!

Well done LO!

First Blog

Welcome! This is the very first of our Developing Nation blogs! How exciting! I’m already considering that I’ll look back on this in ten years and read it with a cringe-worthy reflection of my waffling.
Well, we’ve had an exceptionally busy 2009 with training and events all over the country and abroad. We dove into our educational training programme ‘Rat-Nav’ which focuses on social inclusion, social responsibility, confidence building, responsibility and employability to school leavers and youngsters in their last year of school who are dis-engaged from the school system and motivates them to achieve. We have run the programme a number of times in Falkirk now across Forth Valley and in Dundee and have taken the massive leap to providing the training in schools instead of national curriculum classes for our participants. We are extremely excited that we have caught the attention of the educational system and are very enthusiastically beginning the next phase of our work with the schools. I wish I could develop my model further and put it in the hands of every single school-kid though! Watch this space!
We also launched our flagship event ‘Here Come The Girls’ in Stirling in February to fantastic press and in aid of Caudwell Children. We had over thirty business’ showcasing their products and services from Molton Brown to ******* with fashion shows, freebies galore and our goodie bags were sponsored by Boots plc. Almost four hundred ladies joined us on the day and picked up amazing bargains and free glasses of champagne while enjoying an afternoon of indulgence.
We also branched out into the corporate training arena winning contracts with Glasgow based construction and manufacturing giants, DM Design, and being approached by the UK’s largest Rail provider to deliver a bespoke equality and diversity training programme to 4400 staff! There’s nothing like being told by their HR team that they’ve never seen anything like your training before, love it and love the energy and enthusiasm you have for your work! I felt as though I had achieved what I went into the meeting to do! Amazing!
We’ve spent a lot of time this past year in London and Dublin in training and we are very much looking forward to our new business strategy to develop ourselves further in our own stomping ground and firmly establish ourselves in Scotland as the premier choice for training here now. 2010 will see our efforts double to raise our company profile here and make sure if people are choosing to train, they choose Developing Nation! Why wouldn’t you?!?
Enough Waffling!
Lorraine
